IMPHAL, Feb 8: Saigang CM, Dr Myint Naign and Act East Committee Convenor RK Shivachandra inspected the damages caused by yesterday’s fire at Namphalong bazar, at around 5 pm today.
The blaze which started from a firecracker shop at around 9 pm yesterday, destroyed more than 53 shops, 100 godowns/warehouses and six residences, causing a loss of around Rs 50 crore.
After getting approval from Chief Minister N Biren Singh, a team of Act East Committee, led by RK Shivachandra went to inspect Namphalong today.
Speaking to media persons, RK Shivachandra said that he was also requested by Saigang CM to come to Namphalong.
He said that Namphalong bazar has been providing a source of livelihood to both the people of Manipur as well as Myanmar and added that he would appeal to CM N Biren Singh to provide every possible support to rebuild the market.
He also added that he would urge the Ministry of External Affairs, through the Indian Embassy at Yangon, to help in rebuilding the destroyed market.
SDPO Tengnoupal Sandip Gopaldas, OC Moreh commando, Potsangbam Tarunkumar also accompanied the officials in the visit.
It may be mentioned that although the fire broke well past the permitted time of cross border activities, it was brought under control with the timely help of three fire service vehicles from Imphal, one fire service vehicle of Moreh and personnel of Moreh police.
The timely help of Moreh police was also appreciated by Namphalong Bazar Board Committee.
Speaking to media persons during the inspection trip today, Saigang CM, Dr Myint Naign expressed gratitude to the Government of Manipur and added that steps will be taken up to rebuild the market at the earliest. He also conveyed that the two region should help one another and develop an even deeper bond. He was accompanied by Minister of Finance and Planning.
